The Mystery of His Movement

Jesus showed up again, this time in a different form and still, they didn’t believe. (Mark 16: 12-13)

Two men walking to the countryside. Processing loss. Trying to make sense of the chaos. And suddenly, He’s there. Right in front of them. But they don’t recognize Him. Not at first.

That’s how it goes sometimes.

God moves…clearly, intimately, intentionally…but we don’t see it because we’re stuck in the story we thought He was going to tell.

Grief fogs our vision. Disappointment hardens our hope. And even when He’s standing right in front of us, we can still miss Him.

It wasn’t until later, after they sat down and broke bread together, that their eyes were opened. Only THEN did the moment make sense.

Only then…

That’s the mystery of His movement. It rarely shows up some big announcement. It often comes through reflection. And if you’re not paying attention, you’ll think He never showed up at all.

When I look back over my last few years, I see it now…the way He was working behind the scenes. Foundations were being rebuilt. Idols were being crushed. Clarity was being formed through the fire. I bet if you looked back in the same way, you’d see it too.

But in the moment? It didn’t feel like that, did it?

It felt like wandering.

It felt like loss.

It felt like survival.

Even now, I still catch myself doubting sometimes. Wondering if I’m making it all up. Some days, I’m sure of what He’s doing. Other days, I’m just hoping I heard Him right. But I keep walking.

I keep choosing to believe even when belief doesn’t come easy and the actions are even harder to carry through.

That’s the tension of faith.

The men who encountered Jesus that day ran back to tell the others. But even then, they weren’t believed. Because borrowed faith will always break under the weight of real doubt.

Everyone has to encounter Jesus for themselves.

That’s the difference.

When He meets you, uniquely, personally, undeniably, no one can take that from you.

You don’t need to defend it.

You don’t need to prove it.

You just need to keep walking with Him until your own eyes are opened.

And then you’ll know the truth…He was there the whole time.
