From Ambition to Alignment

When James and John asked for seats of honor beside Jesus, it wasn’t just ambition—it was misalignment. And like so many moments in leadership, families amd businesses, it stirred tension in the group.

But Jesus didn’t shame them. He didn’t split the group or power-trip in frustration. He did what only a true leader does—He called them back to center.

In my own life, I’ve seen this pattern repeatedly.

When my business gets off track…

When my family starts to drift…

When I lose clarity internally…

The answer is always the same: return to center.

And for a man who leads, that center can’t be comfort or applause. It has to be Jesus.

Jesus reminds His disciples that greatness isn’t found in position—it’s found in service. Real leadership isn’t about who stands highest; it’s about who’s willing to go lowest. Not performative humility, but the kind of sacrificial, fierce, intentional service that lifts others up while staying grounded in truth. And often, It happens out In front.

Too many Christians have misread this. They hide behind meekness, afraid to lead boldly. Others chase the world’s metrics of success—power, status, dominance—thinking that’s what it means to rise. This even happens In the Church.

But the Son of Man came not to be served… but to serve. And that wasn’t weakness. That was savage strength.

If Jesus—King of Kings, Lord of Lords—chose servanthood as the mark of His influence, why do we aim for anything else?

If I want to build something that lasts—my marriage, my mission, my legacy—then it must be rooted in this: real leaders serve.

And yes, there’s a cost.

Pouring out constantly can feel overwhelming, exhausting, even unfair.

But here’s the truth: those feelings are real—but they don’t get to lead. Faith leads. And faith says this:

If God calls me to pour out, He will be faithful to fill me back up.

This is the leadership we need more of—grounded, selfless, bold, and relentless in the pursuit of serving others from the overflow of a life centered in Christ.

Mark 10:41-45
