He Doesn’t Sugarcoat the Cost

“It would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.”

This isn’t dramatic imagery—it’s divine gravity.

In Mark 9:42, Jesus issues one of the strongest warnings in Scripture—not to pagans or enemies, but to those with influence. Those who have the ability to impact the faith of others, especially the “little ones”—the vulnerable, the new, the childlike in faith.

And as a father, a husband, a leader, and a man trying to walk faithfully through a complex world, it’s heavy.

Because here’s the truth:

Every day, through what I say and how I live, I am discipling someone. I’m either pointing them toward Jesus—or away from Him. Not just through bold rebellion…but through silence, inaction, compromise, or misalignment.

But this isn’t just a warning. It’s an invitation.

It’s Jesus calling us to return to childlike faith—

To a posture of humility, trust, and awe.

To a belief that God is good not because we’ve rationalized it, but because we’ve experienced Him.

What we model matters.

In our homes.

In our friendships.

In our businesses

In every space we lead and serve.

The people around me—especially the next generation—don’t need to see a perfect man.

They need to see a real man, surrendered to Jesus.

One who leads with integrity, repents quickly, and lives with tenderness and truth.

Because when we choose that path— we don’t just protect someone’s faith…we might just light it on fire.
