In the chaos of opposition and religious debate, one man in the crowd wasn’t looking to argue. He was looking for truth. And he found it in Jesus.
One scribe.
One question that slices through all the noise:
“What’s the most important commandment?”
Jesus doesn’t hesitate.
He doesn’t dance around the politics or theology.
He delivers the foundation:
Love God.
Love people.
That’s it.
That’s everything.
This isn’t some watered-down, cultural version of love.
This is a total surrender kind of love. And It’s a calling.
Love the Lord your God with all your:
Heart – your emotions, your desires, your passion
Soul – your identity, your essence, the deepest part of you
Mind – your thoughts, your focus, your internal atmosphere
Strength – your physical energy, your body, your grind
And then, love your neighbor as yourself.
Not a suggestion. Not a side note.
It’s the other half of the same command. Because if you truly love God, it will overflow into how you treat others and how you see yourself.
This part is where most of us fall.
We serve. We build. We protect.
But we don’t love ourselves well. Not the real, God-designed version of us.
We pick ourselves apart. We chase validation.
We doubt our worth.
But Jesus says the measure we use to love others starts with how we see ourselves. If I dishonor who I am, I cannot fully honor the people I am called to lead, love, and serve.
Love is not a feeling. It is a posture.
It is how you show up. How you carry yourself. How you live.
That’s why, in a world screaming for more, Jesus says:
This is it.
This is the commandment.
It is not complicated.
It is everything.
